In May I worked with Register sports writer John Naughton on a story about a Des Moines Lincoln senior, Vybert Greene, who overcame a series of tragic life events in his final year in high school. His mother died of cancer last fall and without the support of his father or much other family he relied on friends to make it to graduation. The kid was really pretty inspiring. To lose his mother, the person he considered to be all he had in the world, and then go on to excel both in school and athletics was quite a deal. I followed him on and off for a few weeks and produced the short video below, which accompanied John's terrific story online.
